
Jacobi Hospital, the cornerstone of the Jacobi Medical Center complex, is located in a middle class section of the Bronx. A brand new 7 story state of the art Jacobi hospital facility opened in the summer of 2006. Jacobi is one of eleven acute care hospitals in New York City's unique public hospital system and is the largest public hospital facility in the Bronx. It serves as a major academic affiliate and teaching site of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The hospital supports residency training programs in all specialties and subspecialties. It is a 911-receiving hospital, a level one trauma center for both adult and pediatrics, as well as the only Burn Unit in the Bronx, the second largest in New York City. It also serves as the Regional Hyperbaric Center and Regional Snakebite Center for the Tri-state area. The adult Emergency Department delivers care to approximately 75,000 patients each year. The Pediatric Emergency Department manages nearly 40,000 patients annually, is supervised by Pediatric and Emergency Medicine faculty, and supports a fellowship program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. The Psychiatric ED treats another 7,000 patients, and is staffed by members of the Department of Psychiatry.
The new Jacobi Hospital
opened during the Summer of 2006. The
new building houses over 300 medical, surgical and critical
care beds
as well as 10 new operating rooms, built on top of new, state of the art Adult and
Pediatric Emergency Departments. The Adult Emergency
Department, which opened its doors October 2006, houses 32 beds all fully equipped for critical care
in addition to three dedicated resuscitation suites, one
orthopedic room, and one asthma room. The Urgent Care /
Fast Track Area consists of 13 additional rooms, contiguous with
the main ED. The Pediatric Emergency Department area
includes 9 Pediatric regular patient care spaces, 2
resuscitation suites, and a spacious pediatric asthma area.
The Emergency Department at Jacobi has full departmental status
within the medical center and all of the faculty have
appointments at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Montefiore Medical Center is the University Hospital for the
Albert Einstein College of Medicine. It is a 745 bed facility in
the north central Bronx , providing primary through tertiary
care. The newly renovated and enlarged emergency department
serves as a 911 receiving center and the doorway to the
hospital's numerous tertiary care services including diagnostic
and interventional cardiology, oncology, gerontology, critical
care and various surgical subspecialties such as
re-implantation, cardiothoracic, transplant, and neurosurgery. The Adult Emergency Department, one of the busiest in the
tri-state area, treats approximately 80,000 patients per year.
The Children's Hospital at Montefiore, a newly constructed,
state-of-the-art tertiary care facility for children includes a
newly renovated pediatric Emergency Department which treats
approximately 50,000 patients each year. The pediatric ED
serves as a training site for a second pediatric emergency
medicine fellowship and provides care to a population of
children with a relatively high level of acuity and proportion
of tertiary care problems.
The Emergency Department at Montefiore has full departmental
status within the medical center and all of the faculty have
appointments at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
